Blah Blah Blah

I've kinda been down in the dumps about cooking and baking lately. I am just not enjoying it at all. I feel like it is just not fair to have to spend all my time buying all the ingredients, cooking the food, and washing all the dishes.... Oh and the worst part is deciding what to make. I have a house full of picky eaters.

Anyway, I woke up this morning knowing that I had a morning full of cooking and was miserable. But I decided to make the best of it. I took my kids to school, went back home and turned my kitchen into a night club. I turned on B96 and danced and sang along to all those trashy songs while I cooked. And you know what? It wasn't that bad.

I might have to do that more often.

I decided to make foods that everyone will love, so that they will remember how awesome a mom/wife I am.

This afternoon Jessica and I will bake personality cookies. We did it on mother's day and I saved some of the sugar cookie dough so we could do it again. We roll out the dough and use circle shaped cutters. Then we use sprinkles and chocolate chips to make the faces. Mini chocolate chips for the eyes, ice cream sprinkles for eyelashes and eyebrows, and lip sprinkles for the lips.... duh.

They were really cute when we made them last week. I was thinking of getting red and pink food coloring spray so we can make rosy cheeks....

Ok, gotta go make wontons (Jessica's favorite).

Anyone cooking anything good this week?

Thank God The Weekend Is Over!!!!!

What awesome weather we had yesterday! Too bad I decided to have my entire family (29, including us) for dinner for my parent's anniversary. I actually was really excited. I do like to cook sometimes. But there were 2 soccer games to go to, and we were away all weekend for a friend's bar mitzvah. Anyway, here was the menu:

wontons
franks in blanks (jessica makes these and calls them that)
meatballs
grilled vegetables
roasted asparagus
roasted potatoes
grilled chicken
grilled london broil
rice
salad

dessert:
cake and cupcakes
chocolate chip cookies
watermelon

Anyway I ended up running a little late, getting annoyed when they all went to shul (synagogue) during the meal (hey, at least I'm honest), and had the biggest mess to clean up in the whole entire world!!!!!! Seriously, I'm still cleaning up cuz I was too exhausted to finish last night. HELP! Anyway, as much as I do like to cook and host, I think I am retiring from having family dinners at my house. I will cook and bring elsewhere, but the mess of almost 30 people on a sunday night after a long weekend of chasing Alyssa at a hotel is a little more than I can bear.

Anyway, enough complaining. Happy Anniversary Mom and Dad!

Will and Emily had their first soccer games yesterday! AYSO picked the ugliest uniforms EVER for my adorable children to wear. Will's is especially humongous on him (even though it's an extra small) and Emily's is a girl's nightmare (at least it fits though). Emily is crazy aggressive and runs down that field faster than her legs should be able to go. She can run faster than girls much taller than her. She had purple cheeks by the time she was done playing! Will's game was hilarious to watch. They are so little, except for the crazy tall european kid who of course scored all the points! That kid gently pushed a boy from the other team and that other kid came back with this insane ninja attack. I swear! He like flew thru the air and side kicked him.... it was totally hilarious to watch! And I was not the only parent laughing just so you know. I love watching my kids play sports.... even in ugly uniforms!

Anyway, hope you guys had a good weekend and enjoyed the beautiful weather!!!! Gotta get back to cleaning my house :(

Wasting Time & A Good Laugh

I invited guests for Shabbat lunch, and it's been so long, I think I forgot how to cook. You know those weeks when you just have this terrible feeling that all your food is gonna suck? And your guests are gonna have to sit there and pretend they like it? I live in fear of that.

I'm totally out of sugar, and I'm supposed to be making an apple pie and chocolate chip cookies. And even though it is midnight, and I can't cook, I really don't want to wash my dishes yet. So, here I am blogging, shopping on ebay, ordering some tees for Jessica on abercrombiekids.com, and talking to a friend on facebook (and I obviously need sleep because I wrote "you go tit" instead of "you got it" and thought that was ridiculously funny).

Why don't I just go to sleep, you're probably wondering? I am not quite sure.

On a different note, I think I'm really gonna miss Alyssa in the mornings when she's at school. I'm kinda nervous about sending her. She is so sweet and funny and adorable and I am really gonna miss my mornings with her. I really won't have that much alone time with her any more.... :( sob.

I hope that I am making the right decision by sending her. I think she'll like it... but you know, kinda sad... my last baby.

Maybe if I get to work out every morning and get super skinny it will all be worth it. But I sure will miss that cutie pie!

Speaking of Alyssa, we were all watching Big Brother in the family room when I heard Alyssa doing something in the kitchen. I went in and found her making herself a plate of spaghetti from the bowl I left on the table from dinner.

I told her to share some with Will, which she generously did.

She placed that big handful of spaghetti right in his lap!

Hahahahaha... She makes me laugh!

Thank God For Friday

I am so happy today is friday. This has felt like the longest week in the world! Especially since yesterday's fast felt like a week in itself. I am actually looking forward to cooking a little today...

There are 2 things I love to make for Shabbat. Challah and chocolate chip cookies.

Seriously, if anyone ever wants to do a food swap, I'm your girl. I actually have a little swap thing going with my MIL. I make her 2 challahs every week in exchange for a few pieces of shnitzel (breaded chicken, fried) for my kids. But my kids were getting kinda bored of the shnitzel so I sometimes just make them challah. Anyway, anyone ever want to swap any shabbat food... give me a call. I'm not really in the mood to wash dishes so I think I'll just grill anything else I make for Shabbat.... I love grilling. Whoever invented the grill is a genius.... food tastes good and no pots or dishes to wash. What can be better?

Anyway,

I was leaving the grocery store the other day, and a guy stopped to tell me that he loves my car. He wanted details about it and I gladly gave them because I love my car too. He said I have a sweet SUV.... and then the dreaded question... "Can you tell me how much a car like that costs?"
Ummmm.... AWKWARD. I got on the defensive. "Well my father in law worked for FORD so I got a really good deal... I mean it was so good, it was better than what the dealers get. And like it was the auto show so we also got $1000 cash back and a year of free financing....." And, he was all like "Yeah, but like if I was interested in buying this car how much would it cost?" And I was so embarrassed to say it out loud so I said, " You know, I really am not sure because I didn't pay this much, but like probably around $50,000. But nobody really wants SUVs these days, you could probably get a great price" And he responded, "Oh, because of the Obama thing?" And I'm like shit! What Obama thing? I have no idea what he's talking about. I really gotta read the newspaper and watch the news more often. But I simply said, "Oh, I just meant gas is really expensive these days. And apparently I am an idiot and know nothing about what's going on in this world." I think they were giving tax refunds if you buy a new car? Is that what he was talking about? Am I totally making this up?

Anyway, today is friday, and I get to hang with my friends and my family, and eat yummy food, and possibly read a newspaper or two.
