Hit The Road Jack Alyssa

Alyssa did not sleep last night. Alyssa tossed and turned, kicked, and slapped me in bed all night. I havn't checked yet, but I might have a bruise. Saturday night, I heard Jon say, "Alyssa, stop kicking me!" Two seconds later I got a huge slap across the face... ALYSSA!!!!!!!

It is time. Alyssa definitely needs her own bed and room. She is getting kicked out of our room. The only problem is that I'm not really sure where she should go. Should I get Will a bunk bed and let them share his tiny closet of a room or should I put one of the girl's beds in storage and get them a bunk bed and let her sleep with them? But the girls probably don't want to sleep on the top bunk. I think Will does. Decisions, decisions.....

Then we have another problem. She actually thinks our bed is hers. When I tell her to get into bed, she climbs into our bed, throws all the extra pillows to the end, unfolds the comforter, climbs in, and covers herself up. She totally thinks of it as her bed. She does look pretty cute in that big bed, I must admit.

However we do it, it has to be done soon!

I am a first time bunk bed buyer, so if anyone has any suggestions on what kind to buy, please leave me a comment. This is one that I was looking at. And remember it has to fit in a room the size of a small walk in closet.

  1. can you just put her on a crib mattress on the floor in will's room for the time being? that's what we did with K for a while when he was this age before we got around to getting him a real bed. you are sooooooo patient. i can barely stand one night of a kid in my bed.

  3. check out the store Roomz 4 kids and teens. that's where we got our bunk bed. it's awesome. instead of the ladder (which gives me nightmares of kids trying to get down in the middle of the night to go pee and stumbling and falling on their faces) it has a staircase. they have lots of other really cool stuff there too.

  4. I got a bunk bed from Roomz 4 kids as well. However, Shosh's idea is a good one. Ate is on a mattress on the floor currently I have to make a whole bunch of shifts soon. But if you are really all ready to invest, unless you have plans to add on to your house soon or move, you should definitely put Alyssa with the girls. Because at some point it would be weird for Alyssa to sleep with Will. I have a white bunk bed for my Girls room. Also, while the drawers are a nice idea for storage, I hear they r used so often that they break. INstead, I got a trundle bed, so if there is ever a sleepover, there is a bed to pull out for another kid.

  5. not that you know me.. i found this through mcmamma... but my boys have a bunk with a full onbottom and a twin on top (becuase i have a small 2 bedroom house and 3 boys) so eventually they can all sleep in there also very small room.
the only think i think i would have done different..was either an extra trundle or storage underneath..(but i couldnt' afford that anyway so i shouldn't regret it)
the only thing in their bedroom is the bed, adn dresser. the baby's dresser is in the closet.

  6. oh and i second what someone said about crib matress. when n (the baby) goes into the room with the other two it will probally be on a crib matress on the floor or a toddler bed, only becuase the bunk bed is sooo high off of the floor.

  7. From personal experience - I HATE BUNK BEDS!!! It is a huge pain to change the top bed - wether its you or a cleaning lady changing it it is a night mare!!! And keep in mind if someone is a bedwetter than you are changing it more than once a week. It is not fun. My current bunk beds are split - even in a small room. The kids do not spend that much time in their room anyways, they play in the tv room or the playroom so its ok if its a bit cramped.

  8. Rayli - put the bunk bed in the girls room and make your oldest daughter change the linen, she is old enough.

and it IS a huge pain to change the top bunk. we make it a family event. and the kids LOVE sleeping on the top. especially cobi. he

i like the idea of u getting a bunk bed with a trundle underneath instead of drawer space- even though u may need the drawer space, i think for the girls room emily ( who i assume would be willing to sleep on top bunk ) 'n jess would have it more even bc then they both still have trundles for friends underneath their beds. OR , i already told you this, i think you should get the L shaped bunk and put it in will's room bc u can find one that the top bed isnt even that high off the groud.... i even saw one with a slide down once... just an idea...
